What better way to end a days post with some enviable artwork… This painting is called ‘Die Hängematte’ (in English it simply translates as ‘The Hammock’) painted by Gustave Courbet in 1844.

{November 28, 2007}   Insomnia is Making Me Tired

Hiya All,

These past few days have been filled with work, study and exhausting activities designed to wear my energy levels down to a minimum… Apart from money and good grades (for those who don’t know I’m doing a course in literature), the reason is the many restless nights I’ve been having… No matter how hard I try, I cant seem to sleep longer then 4 hours each night…

As much as I love the idea that I now seem to have no need for the standard 8 hours required… it does become a bit monotonous staring out the window, or listening to the same CD… The same CD, for your convinced that if you were to move a single inch, the secret of your sudden comfortable postion would be lost forever… but the fact remains that there are only so many hours that you can count sheep before you realise that it may not be working…

I also refuse to see a Doctor, the last time I went to a docter she basically told me not to stress so much, gave me a pat on the head and waved me off with a lollipop, a Neurafin and told me to get some rest… she was kindly and sweet… but not altogether helpful… Therefore these past few days I have come up with my own routine that I’m sure will work just as well as overdosing on prescription drugs…

  1. Drink lots of herbal tea… Preferably Chamomile.
  2. Learn how to play ‘Guitar Hero’ with friends… fail dismally…
  3. Spend at least two hours a day aimlessly walking.
  4. Read until your eye’s are sore and your fingers have paper cuts.
  5. Work your little butt off.
  6. Study and Type until your simply staring at the computerscreen listlessly.
  7. Invest in water pistols, go outside and have a huge water fight in the rain with friends… (this last was sooo much fun…)

Hopefully I will start feeling the effects shortly… until then, I shall repeat when needed…

{November 26, 2007}   Discovering How to Dance

Hiya All,

A budding addiction to the world wide web has both its ups and downs… one up-side is the amount of new music and up-start artists you are able to discover… for someone as entrenched in the arts as I am, making this discovery is just as exciting as the recent federal election Australia has gone through (Labor won with 5,414,996 votes, a percentage of 53.24 and a +5.98 swing).

Music is another way for people to express themselves and therefore another one of my passions… imagine my delight when I found an entire website devoted to brand spankin’ new artists… the URL for this site is www.mp3.com.au … check out Benjamin Fox… bloody brilliant!!!

My advice for you today… learn how to smile… learn how to be free… learn how to love your life… discover how to dance…

{November 25, 2007}   Something Beautiful

Stained Glass Art

Sorry is a word used most often today to express our remorse… but are we overusing this wonderful word to an unforgivable extent? Are we perhaps using sorry as a ’get out of jail free card’, or an extension of those infamous manners your parents attempted to drill into you as a child?… If by chance there was no drilling in your household, the manners I am speaking of are ‘please’ and ‘thankyou’…

I, myself have heard the word expressed many times and in many different tenses… ‘Sorry for bumping into you’, ’sorry for hurting your feelings’, ’sorry for your loss’ and so on and so forth… I have come to realise that apologising has become an almost automatic reaction and so well worn that when you really need it… when it really needs to matter… it becomes obsolete…

I have also discovered that once you have shattered glass, it is impossible to repair as it was before… sweaping the shards under a rug and ignoring them will not work either… for sooner or later someone is going to bleed… the best options are for you to tidy up the mess you have made and move on, valiantly ignoring the now desolate window frame… Or… if you have the skill, patience and no fear of getting cut… you could create something new and beautiful out of those thorny shards of shattered glass…

On a lighter note… I did manage to make quite a fool of myself today… Note to self… learn to listen properly…

{November 22, 2007}   Nicotine, Newly Found

Hello All,

I was going to do a post on loving your fellow homosapien, but as a loud group of the beasts came into work just as we were closing, I’m not feeling particularly charitable to those (usually) lovable creatures… instead I thought I would do a post on the evils of cigarettes…

   Some facts you may or may not have known about smoking;

  • Smoking harms not just the smoker, but also family members, coworkers and others who breathe the smoker’s cigarette smoke, called secondhand smoke.
  • Smoking gives you cancer.
  • If all women quit smoking during pregnancy, about 4,000 new babies would not die each year.
  • Quitting smoking saves money. A pack-a-day smoker, who pays $2 per pack can, expect to save more than $700 per year…

What bought this on… well I recently caught a young friend (14) smoking, normally I would say; ‘do what you want’; ‘life’s to short’ etc, etc… But here I was thinking that the younger generation had been educated enough to know those above facts (along with; ‘intelligence is sexy’ and ’the more you root around without a condom, the more chances you have of catching an STD’)… I certainly had learnt all these lessons, and I’m only nineteen…

Apparently I was wrong however, doing some reaserch has showed me some surprising statistics… along with talking to some of my younger friends… some have led a scarily heavy life for ones so young and have gone through things that I don’t want people twice their age going through…

Perhaps I was being naive, but instead of being that crazily naurotic friend who hands out condoms and uses the basic *Christian sales pitch of death and destruction to get you to stop doing what I disagree with… I will simply post it on my blog, therefore those who want to read it can… and those who don’t, will continue to smoke… I guess.

*I didn’t mean to offend any devout Christians out there… but some of your methods of gaining fellowship have amused me in the past…

I just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean (At Worlds End) and loved it! I am also loving a book called ’A Hundred Years of Solitude’… but lets not stray from the subject at hand…

The actor (Apart from Geoffrey Rush) that truly made that movie enjoyable was Johnny Depp… Therefore, out of respect for the great (and rather attractive) Mr Depp, I shall name 8 reason why he should be recognised as a God by all…

  1. Captain Jack Sparrow (need I say more…)
  2. He’s definitely not afraid to walk (or perhaps swagger) along a road far less traveled…
  3. His mother was a waitress named Betty-Sue, his father an engineer named John Christopher Depp… Having had a humble beginning, he may be able to respect power and authority more than most…
  4. His full name is John Christopher Depp the Second!… if that’s not a godly name, I don’t know what is…
  5. He was in a band… everyone knows that music makes the world round…
  6. He (and his partner) named their son John ‘Jack’ Christopher Depp the Third… everyone knows that lack of any conventional imagination is the mark of a true politician…
  7. He’s not afraid of eccentricities, and therefore could be accepting of most people…
  8. He’s a humanitarian… got to love those humanitarians…

OK, So perhaps I’m only grasping at straws… but I really do love that actor… and not only because he’s hot!

Now I’m off to read more of that book I mentioned earlier, another great story by ‘Gabriel Garcia Marquez’… Thanks goes to the friend that suggested I read it, *gives cyber hug*. Have a good night now and (so my Nan would say) don’t let the bed bugs bite…
