{November 26, 2007}   Discovering How to Dance

Hiya All,

A budding addiction to the world wide web has both its ups and downs… one up-side is the amount of new music and up-start artists you are able to discover… for someone as entrenched in the arts as I am, making this discovery is just as exciting as the recent federal election Australia has gone through (Labor won with 5,414,996 votes, a percentage of 53.24 and a +5.98 swing).

Music is another way for people to express themselves and therefore another one of my passions… imagine my delight when I found an entire website devoted to brand spankin’ new artists… the URL for this site is www.mp3.com.au … check out Benjamin Fox… bloody brilliant!!!

My advice for you today… learn how to smile… learn how to be free… learn how to love your life… discover how to dance…

Sorry is a word used most often today to express our remorse… but are we overusing this wonderful word to an unforgivable extent? Are we perhaps using sorry as a ’get out of jail free card’, or an extension of those infamous manners your parents attempted to drill into you as a child?… If by chance there was no drilling in your household, the manners I am speaking of are ‘please’ and ‘thankyou’…

I, myself have heard the word expressed many times and in many different tenses… ‘Sorry for bumping into you’, ’sorry for hurting your feelings’, ’sorry for your loss’ and so on and so forth… I have come to realise that apologising has become an almost automatic reaction and so well worn that when you really need it… when it really needs to matter… it becomes obsolete…

I have also discovered that once you have shattered glass, it is impossible to repair as it was before… sweaping the shards under a rug and ignoring them will not work either… for sooner or later someone is going to bleed… the best options are for you to tidy up the mess you have made and move on, valiantly ignoring the now desolate window frame… Or… if you have the skill, patience and no fear of getting cut… you could create something new and beautiful out of those thorny shards of shattered glass…

On a lighter note… I did manage to make quite a fool of myself today… Note to self… learn to listen properly…

{November 22, 2007}   Nicotine, Newly Found

Hello All,

I was going to do a post on loving your fellow homosapien, but as a loud group of the beasts came into work just as we were closing, I’m not feeling particularly charitable to those (usually) lovable creatures… instead I thought I would do a post on the evils of cigarettes…

   Some facts you may or may not have known about smoking;

  • Smoking harms not just the smoker, but also family members, coworkers and others who breathe the smoker’s cigarette smoke, called secondhand smoke.
  • Smoking gives you cancer.
  • If all women quit smoking during pregnancy, about 4,000 new babies would not die each year.
  • Quitting smoking saves money. A pack-a-day smoker, who pays $2 per pack can, expect to save more than $700 per year…

What bought this on… well I recently caught a young friend (14) smoking, normally I would say; ‘do what you want’; ‘life’s to short’ etc, etc… But here I was thinking that the younger generation had been educated enough to know those above facts (along with; ‘intelligence is sexy’ and ’the more you root around without a condom, the more chances you have of catching an STD’)… I certainly had learnt all these lessons, and I’m only nineteen…

Apparently I was wrong however, doing some reaserch has showed me some surprising statistics… along with talking to some of my younger friends… some have led a scarily heavy life for ones so young and have gone through things that I don’t want people twice their age going through…

Perhaps I was being naive, but instead of being that crazily naurotic friend who hands out condoms and uses the basic *Christian sales pitch of death and destruction to get you to stop doing what I disagree with… I will simply post it on my blog, therefore those who want to read it can… and those who don’t, will continue to smoke… I guess.

*I didn’t mean to offend any devout Christians out there… but some of your methods of gaining fellowship have amused me in the past…

I just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean (At Worlds End) and loved it! I am also loving a book called ’A Hundred Years of Solitude’… but lets not stray from the subject at hand…

The actor (Apart from Geoffrey Rush) that truly made that movie enjoyable was Johnny Depp… Therefore, out of respect for the great (and rather attractive) Mr Depp, I shall name 8 reason why he should be recognised as a God by all…

  1. Captain Jack Sparrow (need I say more…)
  2. He’s definitely not afraid to walk (or perhaps swagger) along a road far less traveled…
  3. His mother was a waitress named Betty-Sue, his father an engineer named John Christopher Depp… Having had a humble beginning, he may be able to respect power and authority more than most…
  4. His full name is John Christopher Depp the Second!… if that’s not a godly name, I don’t know what is…
  5. He was in a band… everyone knows that music makes the world round…
  6. He (and his partner) named their son John ‘Jack’ Christopher Depp the Third… everyone knows that lack of any conventional imagination is the mark of a true politician…
  7. He’s not afraid of eccentricities, and therefore could be accepting of most people…
  8. He’s a humanitarian… got to love those humanitarians…

OK, So perhaps I’m only grasping at straws… but I really do love that actor… and not only because he’s hot!

Now I’m off to read more of that book I mentioned earlier, another great story by ‘Gabriel Garcia Marquez’… Thanks goes to the friend that suggested I read it, *gives cyber hug*. Have a good night now and (so my Nan would say) don’t let the bed bugs bite…

{November 19, 2007}   Quiz Mania

Hey all,

Scrounging around on the Internet, you tend to stumble upon quite a lot of personality quizzes (especially being addicted to facebook)… I was always one of those people who scoffs at such thing, saying how they  are ‘ridiculus’ and ‘pointless’… I mean, If you need someone elses assurance on who you are… you may need more help than anyone without a diploma could handle…

However, I now realise that saying such things now would be painfully hypocritical… I am now a self confessed personality quiz addict…

Since my frequent cyber adventures, I have discovered that If I were a alcoholic beverage I would be a glass of wine and a pint of beer (curiously these two seem to contradict themselves), apparently after school I should have travelled the world, I am Chandler off ‘Friends’ and Brian off ‘Family Guy’, my university major should be Engineering and Psychology and I am also the color blue…

Here I am telling people not to take drugs and the such, when I’m in the grip of an addiction just as self destructing… OK, slight overreaction… there are many addictions worse than personality quizzes, but I’m positive I’m not the only only one these damn things have enthralled…

On an upside, looking at all the different persanality possibilities have given me some excellent ideas for characterizing some of my various characters…

{November 17, 2007}   Party Animal…?

Hiya all,

I recently discovered that I am not much of a party animal…

Now I kinda knew this about myself already… However I shall admit a slight confusion as some of my friends decided that beneath my (sometimes) quiet, bookish exterior was a raging tigress ready to burst forth and heat up the dance-floor in my somewhat stylish ‘blue suede shoes’ (Elvis, you are a king)…

I am rather amused by this picture of myself… we are, after all, talking about someone who could count the number of boyfriends she has had on one hand… is completely hopeless at talking (sanely) to the guy she does fall for… who is bashful and blushes often (to her own disgust) over much of what some of her friends discuss… has two left feet… who preferred trips into her own mind (in a book or writing) then most other trips…

Inner tigress? I can see myself being privately passionate with the one that I love… but as far as wild nights of booze and seduction go… Give me ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’ (a beautifully written novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) and I’m quite happy for you to go out and have the time of your life without me…

Not that there is anything wrong with the party animals of our world, by all means go out there, but please be safe about it- I resently went to this party where they were handing out LSD… LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is a very dangerous hallucinate that lasts for about 12 hours… Its nasty stuff, and all I wanted to do was rip the bag out of their hands and throw it in the fire… I didn’t, it would have been a very unintelligent thing to do, taking drugs away from (potentially violent) users… but it was a near thing… This was possibly the time I lost my taste for partying…

Well I hope you are all well and happy out there…

{November 13, 2007}   Lustful Thoughts

Hiya,

Todays entry is about lust… I have been writing (and reading) a bit about it lately and can’t help but think that this sudden fascination may be linked to current frustrating circumstances… this troubles me… Thus, analyzing with you seems the best course of action…

What is lust? The on-line dictionary describes lust in three different definitions; an intense or unrestrained sexual craving, an overwhelming or obsessive desire, intense eagerness or enthusiasm.

While researching for this topic (something I like to do), I found some sites that amused me no end… One such was ‘the seven deadly sins’ take on things… In accordance to said website, we should all be smothered in fire and brimstone if ever we are tempted by any manner of ‘fornication’ and goes on to describe such ‘evil’ thoughts as a deformity of the mind… I don’t know about you, but I think an awful lot of people are going to be smothered in fire and brimstone…

Do you believe lust to be a deformity of the mind? I don’t… I believe lust to be a healthy (if sometimes inconvenient) human emotion/ reaction… You should never be made to feel horrible, simply because you are more passionate than most…

But where does it fit in with every other emotion that ’us creatures who feel’ have to deal with… It’s too strong to be mere attraction, It’s too weak to be love… Or is it a stage of love? I would hope that people do lust after the one that they love… Or is this when the feeling stops being lust and becomes desire? Isn’t desire the more formal term for lust anyway?

I know there are many types of lust that do not require wanting someone sexually (lust for power, blood, life… etc). However, this whole lusting thing is new to me and somewhat puzzling… I can read all I want, but it will never amount to experience… You don’t have to comment if you dont want, but I do hope that I had you all thinking…

{November 12, 2007}   The Curious Art of Gaming

Once I overheard two very different young men talking… A more curious pair I had never seen… They were both in their late teens… however, they were complete opposite in both disposition and looks…

One was a brooding Heathcliffe, with dramaticly beautiful good looks and intense, dark eyes that spoke of a keen and cunning intelligence… he held himself erect and there was a way about his manner suggesting a deep, unbridled passion that rippled just beneath the surface… You could easily picture him standing on the edge of a cliff, watching the sea crash over the jagged rocks below… His unspoken emotion as wild and temoultuous as the storm he was caught in…

The other was a reckless Romeo… Equipped with the quick charm, easy smile and sweet-talking playfullness that had had young Juliet willing to sacrifice both her virtue and her life… He had a laugh the sound of tinkering bells and he laughed (and swore) often… There was no restraint in his manner… He was the swashbuckling pirate that stood at the bow of his ship, throwing back his golden curls and laughing at the mere thought of danger…

Yet, here these two were… talking with a respect for each-other that could only be described as puzzling… What was it that they were talking about with such intensity, reverence and excitement? What was it that could possibly bring these two very different people together… bonding… as they were? And so I edged closer to hear the subject of which they were talking…

’The World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’…

Perhaps all that is needed for world peace is to have our leaders addicted to video games…

{November 11, 2007}   My redemption

Hiya,

So today is remembrance day and I promise to pay my respects to all those brave soldiers in a moment… but first I should go back to yesterdays post and apologise… If any young children were reading, then I didn’t set much of an example did I?

Therefore, I shall redeem myself with saying that drinking is bad for you and here are some fun facts that you may not have known about alcohol;

Alcohol affects your brain. Drinking alcohol leads to a loss of coordination, poor judgment, slowed reflexes, distorted vision, memory lapses, and even blackouts.

Alcohol affects your body. Alcohol can damage every organ in your body. It is absorbed directly into your bloodstream and can increase your risk for a variety of life-threatening diseases, including cancer.

Alcohol affects your self-control. Alcohol depresses your central nervous system, lowers your inhibitions, and impairs your judgment. Drinking can lead to risky behaviors, such as driving when you shouldn’t, or having unprotected sex.

Ok, so maybe you did already know… but it never hurt to rehash some old lessons…

{November 10, 2007}   Today

Today I went to bed at two o’clock and woke up at six…

Today my mouth was as dry as a desert, I had myself some water and sat on the couch where I fell asleep for a further 4 hours… this never happens.

Today loud noises and bright lights were hated with the passion I rarely display to the world…

Today… I am hung-over…

I’m sure I will feel better tomorrow…
